F.A.Q's

1. Why sourcing from China?

There are many good reasons for companies of all sizes launching their China sourcing strategy. Some of the most obvious examples are: low labour rates; plenty of natural resources; dynamic industrial infrastructure, highly trained and motivated work forces, stable political and economic environment; advanced technology and equipment as the result of globalisation etc.

2. What products can you source in China?

We source everything that is made and manufactured in China such as apparel; alumina cement; building materials; car video; ceramic tiles; computer hardware & software; commercial furniture; consumer electrics; concrete mixers; corporate gifts; doors; fashion accessories; hardware; home decor; indoor/outdoor furniture; industrial equipment; injection modelling; kitchenware; machinery; motorhome parts; OEM products; office stationary; plug socket; power cables; power board; promotional products; safety equipment; solar chargers, collectors & controllers; steel pipes; sun glasses; timber flooring; truck parts; USB flash drives; water coolers; tools; wheels, rims & tyres etc. That is everything made and manufactured in China.

4. What is the minimum quantity a factory expects its customers to order?

There are many factors to be considered in dealing with the minimum order quantity. For example, the size, value, and volume of the products you are importing and the frequency of orders you place for the products. Generally, a genuine factory would expect at least one FCL of goods to be supplied per month. However, as L&Z’s clients, we can always negotiate with the factory to supply LCL of goods.

5. What is the product lead time and how long does it take for my products to be manufactured?

Lead time is the period between a customers order and delivery of the final product. A small order of a pre-existing item may only take 3-4 weeks of lead time to complete, but a larger order of custom-made parts may have a lead time of 6-8 weeks. It all depends on a number of factors, such as factorys overall manufacturing facilities; the condition of its machinery and equipment; number of employees; how many production lines will be using during manufacturing etc. Lead time is one of the major factors needs to be considered when auditing a factory.

6. What import license do I need to obtain to import from China?

For most products there are no requirements for bringing them into Australia. However, certain restrictions may apply on products such as food, medicines and lotions. We strongly recommend you to do your research before start importing. L&Z is also willing to investigate the item(s) you are after once we receive your requests.

7. How much savings do I expect to receive by using your services?

Similar to the minimum order quantity, savings is variable depending on the size, value, volume of the products you are importing and the frequency of orders you place for the products. In most cases, by using our services most of our clients can save at least 30-50% of the costs of goods compare to what they used to pay to their local suppliers.

8. How are the products shipped?

Products are usually quoted with F.O.B pricing, meaning that factories handle everything from production to domestic shipping including tax, export documentation, insurance, custom clearance etc. After that, you can either arrange your goods to be delivered from a Chinese port to your door or we can manage the rest of goods forwarding for you.

9. How much do I expect to pay for the services you provide?

Our fees are depending on many factors such as the complexity of your project; the amount of time we spend on research & supply and the manpower we employ in each segment of the process. Generally speaking, we charge a monthly fee for the services we provide and a 5%-10% margin on top of the value of the orders shipped. Reason for this is the monthly fee we charge is mainly used to cover our daily operating costs such as rent, employee’s salary, electricity bill, advertising & travel expense, tax etc. However, for businesses in all types and sizes, survival is far more not enough, we are here for a profit and it really comes from the margin we add on each order. We firmly believe by comparing the services we provide and the savings you receive, our rate is excellent value for money.

10. There are many sourcing companies claim they do not add any margin on customer’s order, is it true?

We have noticed that these days many companies say they do not add any margin on top of the value of the order shipped. The best way to verify whether it is true is to have two quotes from a same supplier. We used to have a client show his quote that another sourcing company provide – that company promised to him that there is no extra margin added to his order. But guess what, we provide a lower price from the same supplier even by adding up an 8% margin.

11. There are some companies do not charge a monthly fee, why do you?

Please remember there is no such a thing as a free lunch. For those companies do not charge a fixed monthly fee are most likely factory’s agents instead of real sourcing specialists. For factory’s agents, they financially tied with certain number of factories and only in favour of these factories, they disregard whether the products & services of these factories produce are suitable for your business and. Yet product sourcing specialists understand your business values share your risk and will do a lot of research in the marketplace and finally source the products that suit your business at the best price and assist you in building a long term relationship with your supplier.
